Unmasked

Hi everyone! My name is Becky. My husband, Mike, is the new pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church. That makes me the "pastor's wife"—a title that is both vague and full of expectation. In a role that has neither training nor authority, I have learned that I just need to be myself.

I like to help where I can, and I anticipate that there will be plenty to do in my new home. My first step, though, is to be in prayer, for the pastor, the families of Immanuel Baptist, and the community of Wessington Springs. So know that you are on my mind and in my heart every day.

Arriving in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic has made meeting people a challenge. I admit I have trouble remembering names and stories when our conversations are brief and socially distant. And I've been told that I wouldn't be recognized out and about because who can tell what anyone really looks like when we're all masked up! To help, I'm including a couple of pictures of me UNMASKED.

Here's a bit about me: I have some experience with editing and design so I've been happily working to get the Immanuel Baptist website up and running. My previous church has a community garden and other outdoor projects underway, which has inspired me to garden, both for vegetables and to learn more about native plants.

When it comes to serving, I'll get my hands dirty, but the thought of standing up in front of a crowd makes me cringe. I can cook for a few or a crush, but you certainly wouldn't want me to play the piano. I can organize all day long, but I'm most inspired to clean when others come alongside me.

So I hope you will remind me of your name and share a story or two the next time we see one another. I look forward to getting to know you better!
